Opening Reception | July 9th | 5:30 pm | Gallery 905
Gallery 905 is pleased to present Mrs. Drigger, Fried Chicken, and The Manifesto of Security, a new exhibition by Birmingham artist Tara Stallworth Lee.
Working with encaustic collage on handmade paper, Lee draws from 1941 Farm Security Administration photographs by John Collier Jr. from the Library of Congress collection. Taken in Dallas and Coffee Counties as part of the "Food for Defense" program, the images offer a unique glimpse into Alabama's history.
Lee works across mediums with a concentration in analog photography, paper-making, collage, and textiles. She is the recipient of the 2021 Alabama State Council on the Arts Gay Burke Fellowship in Photographic Art and currently serves as a studio resident at Ground Floor Contemporary in Birmingham. For more than two decades, she has taught for organizations including the Smithsonian Associates and the Alabama Prison Arts and Education Project.
